Sinus Infection in Two Year Old

… Continued …

  1. Keep your home environment as comfortable as possible for the nasal passages! For example, while heating system is necessary during winter, it can lead to dry air inside your room. And dry air can make sinus problems more likely. To keep safe, consider installing an air humidifier unit. It can help provide ideal humidity (about 45-50 percent) and keep the sinus cavities moist!
  2. Do maintenance regularly for all of your heating, ventilation and air conditioning units – including your humidifier. This is not only important to keep the unit run efficiently (more energy saving) and prevent mold growth, but also to make sure that the quality of air inside the room is well maintained.
  3. In general, sinusitis is not considered as contagious disease. But since cold event is often precursor to the sinus infection (and cold can spread easily among family), it’s worth a try to teach your toddler and family the importance of good personal hygiene – such as frequent hand washing.
  4. Keep your toddler hydrated by drinking adequate liquids every day! Hydration can also play a part to help keep the sinus linings moist.

If your toddler has allergy, keep it off!  An Allergy can be a trigger of sinus infection, because it can make the normal thin lining of the sinuses gets swelled.

Keep your home environment clear of any known allergens! These include pet dander, dust, and tobacco smoke. If necessary, talk to a doctor for more guidance (both pharmaceutical and environmental) to cope with.

Again, sinus infection in toddlers rarely causes serious problem. But if the symptoms don’t improve (last longer than expected) or even if they get worse, it’s much better to seek medical help!
